Laxey Glen - Glion Laksaa

Laxey Glen - Glion Laksaa

Approximately 10 miles south from Ramsey (Manx: Rhumsaa) is Laxey (Manx: Laksaa) and in the centre of the village is Laxey Glen (Manx: Glion Laksaa). Partly man-made and partly natural it has the Glen Roy River flowing through it's steeply wooded slopes.

Access is by car, (good car parking facilities), bus or electric tram. This glen, with its children’s play area and paddock, is popular with families. The glen's location in the centre of the town makes it popular with local dog walkers. There are amenities and a cafe at the top of the glen.

Our Visit

The floor of the glen was carpeted with fallen leaves when we visited on an Autumn day. We followed the path along the side of the river which in parts had moss covered sections of old dry stone walls. In one section of the river was a massive boulder that looked as though it had just landed right in the middle, forcing the fast flowing water to divide around it. Attractive stone built arched bridges give real character to the glen and steps take you up to paths cut into the sides of the steep sided valley. Beside the car park at the base of the glen is the impressive Laxey Flour Mill building built in 1860 and still in use.
