Wales: Call For Separate Welsh News At Six

In a call that has echoes of the ‘Scottish Six’ campaign Plaid Cymru has called for separate evening primetime news to be produced in Wales, for Wales, in order to lead a new direction in indigenous Welsh media.

It is suggested that such a move would stimulate a new indigenous Welsh media and it is further suggested that running the primetime news programmes from Wales would tackle the London-centric nature of the news, and set the bar for public service broadcasting.

Breizh/Cymru: Links Strengthened

Yesterday (Monday 21 September). a well known Breton politician and leader of the ‘Oui la Bretagne’ (Yes Brittany) movement was in Wales for an official reception at the Senedd (Welsh Assembly) in Caerdydd/Cardiff.

Christian Troadec, Mayor of Karez (Carhaix) picture) was welcomed by Plaid Cymru AM Lord Dafydd Elis Thomas, who was leader of Plaid Cymru between 1984 and 1991 and the first ever President of the Welsh Assembly in 1999 following the referendum on devolution of 1997.

Secretary General Slams Schools Recruitment

The Secretary General of the Celtic League has written to the First Minister of Wales to express concern about military recruitment in schools.

The move comes as the Welsh Assembly plan to consider the issue.

Similar correspondence is to be targeted at leaders in the other Celtic countries.

New Deepcut Inquest Will Last Several Weeks

The body of Private Cheryl James from Llangollen was exhumed last month ahead of a second inquest into her death and metallic fragments were removed for forensic examination. The exhumation took place at the family’s request

Pte James was one of a number or recruits who died in suspicious circumstances whilst undergoing initial training at Deepcut Army base. She was found with a bullet wound to her head in November 1995.

Her body was reburied after a short ceremony with the close family present.

Overhead Lines To Be Removed from Snowdonia National Park

Snowdonia National Park (Welsh: Parc Cenedlaethol Eryri) is the largest National Park in Wales. Snowdonia is area of outstanding beauty comprising of a varied landscape which includes mountain scenery, glacial valleys, extensive moorlands, and two coastal estuaries. Now a section of ugly pylons carrying overhead lines are to be removed. The pylons, which have long scarred the views in the National Park, will be removed and replaced with underground cables according to plans unveiled by National Grid, the electricity and gas utility company. 

Wales: Congratulations For Corbyn But Plaid Say Labour Record In Wales Is Dismal

Commenting on the election of the new Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn, the Leader of Plaid Cymru, offered her congratulations, but there was a sting in the tail of her message.

Leanne Wood AM (picture) said she hoped Corbyn would

"Deliver the votes of his MPs to join Plaid Cymru MPs in opposing those Tory policies that are causing great harm to people in Wales and beyond”.

But she went on:

Cymru Is Not An Extension Of England

The decision to rename the Millennium Stadium in Caerdydd (Cardiff), Cymru (Wales) the Principality Stadium, undermines the constitutional status of the country.

Cymru is a nation in its own right and even though the renaming of the Millenium Stadium stems from a 10 year sponsorship deal with the Cardiff-based Principality building society, the ramifications of the name has wider implications.

A conference to debate the implications of Cornwall’s inclusion in the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities (FCPNM) was held on Friday (4th September 2015) at St Austell.

Campaigners Fight To Save Ancient Woodland In Anglesey

Campaigners are fighting a desperate battle to save restored ancient woodland and a known red squirrel habitat in Anglesey (Welsh: Ynys Môn), which is an island off the north-west coast of Wales. A planning application for a Llangefni link road will be considered by Anglesey Council planners on Wednesday, September 2.

Coed Cadw, the Woodland Trust, has objected to the link road and have said:
