Mann: What Are The MOD Paying DOI Asked

The Celtic League have written to the DOI Director of Ports asking what monies are paid by the UK Ministry of Defence for the use by RAF training aircraft which use Ronaldsway regularly.

Hawk trainers from the RAF Valley base utilise the airport on a regular basis and additionally larger types such as Hercules transports have used the airport.

The training generally involves ‘non touch down’ approach and take-off techniques.

A copy of the brief query to Ms Reynolds is set out below:

“18th September 2015

Dear Ms Reynolds,

Can you advise what the Ministry of Defence currently pay on an annual basis for the use by RAF aircraft of Airport facilities at Ronaldsway, regularly, for training purposes?

At a time when the United Kingdom is ‘screwing every last penny’ out the Isle of Man via government cuts to VAT receipts and its politicians notably the new Labour opposition leader are threatening the Manx economy it will be interesting to see if the UK is ‘paying its way’ at an adequate rate!

The Celtic League was advised of the figure paid some years ago so it will be interesting to see if this has been increased.
