Support For Kurds'

NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE

Support for an independent homeland is core to the aspirations of Celtic peoples beliefs. This year Celtic people throughout the Six Celtic Nations of Alba, Breizh, Cymru, Éire, Kernow, Mannin and beyond celebrate the the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising (Irish: Éirí Amach na Cásca), the armed rising in Ireland. In the most significant uprising in Ireland since the rebellion of 1798 Irish republicans mounted the rising to end British rule in Ireland and establish an independent Irish Republic.

Celtic people also fully understand the struggle by peoples throughout the world to establish a homeland. At this time, even under the gaze of the international media, the Turkish government is undertaking a violent war against the Kurdish nation. Turkish President Erdogan tries to excuse the violence as a "fight against terrorist separatist organizations." As pointed out in a recent article in the Breton website 7SEIZH (http://7seizh.info/…/…/turquie-erdovan-petition-rime-prison/ ) the ultra-centralized increasingly dictatorial President of Turkey continues to erode the human rights of the Turkish people. Now there is even a crackdown by the Turkish government threatening signatories of a petition calling for the end of the controversial army operations against the Kurdish resistance with one to five years imprisonment.

It is very important for nationalist political parties in the Celtic nations and Governments within those nations to express moral support to those engaged on a course of action with which we fully identify. This is why we need to rally to the cause of the Kurds'.
