Storm of Protest Gathers As UK Government Block Support For Cornish Language

News From Kernow Matters To Us:

The ongoing petition: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/128474

The decision made by James Wharton MP, a Minister at the Department for Communities and Local Government, to retain our tax money scheduled to be spent on our Cornish language may well represent the catalyst needed to create a storm of ongoing protest in Cornwall.

As the treachery of the Westminster Government is slowly being revealed as well as the actions of some of those traitorous MPs elected in good faith by the people of Cornwall, we are seeing social media set alight with protest aimed at the wicked Tory Government.

We are grateful to all those who have signed the petition created by Cornishman, Dr Jon Mills, and to the great Cornish overseas diaspora for joining in and petitioning their governments and the British embassies.

We have received a message of support from Tim Farron MP, leader of the Lib Dems, from many Cornish actors and actresses including Susan Penhaligon and from members of Plaid Cymru and the SNP, and from EuroLang in Brussels amongst many, many others.

Urgent messages have been sent directly to the Council of Europe and the United Nations.

The Tory treachery has been condemned by Cornwall Council and the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce as well as 'Visit Cornwall' and by an umbrella organisation representing hundreds of Town and Parish Councillors.

We thank the Cornish organisations elsewhere in Britain for now joining in and in particular the 'Kernow in the City' folks up in London who are busy spreading the news of the treachery in the metropolis.

We also thank our brother and sister Celts, the Welsh, the Bretons, the Scots, the Manx and the Irish for supporting us.

We must thank the good folks of England for recognising that we share this island and that the Cornish and their language are an indigenous British people and tongue and that of all the expenditures on various languages, that on Cornish is the very least.

Our teachers, our members and others do what we do for nothing. We do it because we believe in ourselves.

As an example £150,000 will buy just 6 feet of HS2 track or two tail fins on a Trident missile. It would be lost when compared with Eric Pickles parliamentary breakfast expenses for a year!

We need funds to pay for all important representation, insurances, literature and the like and to help Cornwall Council strategically manage the ongoing development of our language.

And it is our tax money after all that the Government are keeping back from us!

There are certain things we shall not stand for - anything which affects our ancient border and anything which affects our resurgent language.

More forms of protest are currently being considered including demonstrations outside MPs constituency offices.

We aim to call the traitors to account!
