Rick Rescorla (RIP), Cornish hero supreme, to be awarded posthumous President's Citizens Medal by the President of the United States

We are pleased and proud to inform you that Rick Rescorla, son of Hayle and proud Cornishman, is to be awarded the President's Citizens Medal, this being announced on Wednesday September 11th, 2019, the 18th anniversary of the Twin Towers, NY, NY, USA attacks.

Cyril Richard ‘Rick’ Rescorla BA MA LLB holder of ‘The White Cross of Cornwall’, US Silver Star, US Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, US Purple Heart, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, British General Service Medal and nicknamed ‘Hard Core’ and ‘The Cornish Hawk’ - saved 2,687 lives on September 11, 2001 whilst singing Cornish songs, was an academic, Cornish patriot, and hero supreme, and was the man who predicted 9/11 and remembered with pride by many of us in Kernow, some of whom knew the great man personally.

A large granite memorial stands to his eternal memory in Hayle and a train has been named for him by the Great Western Railway.

Kernow Matters To Us (KMTU) continues to call upon the distant, discredited and dysfunctional Westminster Government to recognise this Cornish and International hero but sadly, as has been the case with several other Cornish notables, they have thus far declined to do so.

Many Cornish people are better recognised and awarded decorations abroad than they are by the Westminster Government which advises the Queen. This is a sad state of affairs and is perhaps a comment on the outdated and imperialistic awards system in place on this island, a system which prefers to recognise celebrities, the wealthy and overpaid civil servants rather than real heroes whose actions have saved the lives of others.

Our thoughts are with Rick's wife Susan, their children and other family members both Stateside and in Kernow.
