Protesters target Gaeltacht services cuts

I highlighted the apparent ‘bonhomie’ of Ireland’s Taoiseach Leo Varadkar with the reality of rural communities fighting to retain services. I cited the campaign to keep the Post Office open at Inverin a village on the Co Galway coast road between Spiddal and Casla.

My (Irish Branch) League colleage Caoimhín Ó Cadhla has been in touch to say that Conradh na Gaeilge (the Gaelic League) of which he is also a member are fighting a vigorous campaign to combat cuts to services in all the Gaeltacht areas. They recently held a demo at the GPO in Dublin and apparently another ‘welcome’ for Leo is being planned when he visits Letterkenny next month.
