Momentum building for Yes vote after Darling crumbles in debate with Alex Salmond on Scottish independence

A depressed London based media is desperately trying to salvage something after the remarkable performance by Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond in the televised debate with pro-union Alistair Darling. Opinion polls show a huge 71% to 29% majority believe that Alex Salmond scored a victory over Alistair Darling in the debate. It’s certainly not difficult to see why. Darling was reduced to a stuttering, finger pointing wreck as he failed repeatedly to answer questions or make any positive case whatsoever for keeping Scotland within the United Kingdom. His attempts to challenge Alex Salmond over currency were answered clearly several times. He then answered his own question with the words ‘Of course Scotland can use the pound’, words that will always haunt him.

Alistair Darling’s performance really summed up the totally negative campaign that has been run by the pro-union No supporters. They have constantly failed to make any case for keeping Scotland in the United Kingdom. Relying instead on scare tactics, half-truths, at times downright lies and of course the support of the English based media. There can be no doubt that the pro-independence Yes campaign has been much better. Giving clear well rounded answers to all questions and making a very positive case for voting Yes in the forthcoming referendum. In a rallying cry at the end of the television debate aimed at Scotland's 4.2 million voters, Alex Salmond said: "It's time, our time. This is our moment. Let's use it now." The momentum is now with the Yes to independence campaign.
