Mann: Great when the public bail you out on a rainy day!

While Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan MHK wants to make it more difficult for lone working parents to get Employed Persons Allowance (EPA) to supplement their inadequate wage his colleague Laurence Skelly MHK Minister for Enterprise is giving bundles of £5000 to the business sector.

The Chamber of Commerce is broadcasting a clarion call to its members to head to the Department of Enterprise trough and ‘get their snouts in it’ (link):

It's the latest in a series of giveaways over the years that this ‘business first people last government follows.

Now of course I don’t doubt their will be some closet Tories who avidly scan these pages who will think thats its ok to give public monies so that firms can ride out Brexit. However in the good old days when I was a Trade Union official we used to set aside from subs each week a certain amount for ‘contingencies’ should they arise. I really think that the Chamber and their chums community should have the wherewithal to cope with its own contingencies without Messrs Cannan and Skelly shovelling wads of public money their way.

Its past time this rip-off from public funds was ended and government devoted some energy to ensuring those folk without money to eat, heat or find somewhere to live were assisted.
