Throughout August, Cornwall Fire, Rescue and Community Safety (CFRCS) Service put out a call to help name their brand new fire boat which is currently being built. CFRCS Service received 214 suggestions from members of the public and have shortlisted it down to the top four names. The final vote is now in the hands of the public who will decide on the successful fire boat name.

The four options are:

Skath An Tanlu (‘fire boat’ in Cornish)

Nelson (In memory of the Services Fire Investigation Dogs)

Morvoren (‘sea maiden’ in Cornish)

One and All (Taken from the Cornish crest)

The brand new fire boat commissioned by Cornwall Fire, Rescue and Community Safety Service will be based in Falmouth and will help keep residents and visitors safe around the coast of Cornwall. This is the first purpose built boat for the service and will be used for maritime incidents and in partnership with other emergency services for prevention, boat safety and as cover during busy events such as regattas.

The deadline to submit your vote is 5pm on 06 September 2017.

Once the vote has closed and the new name is confirmed, the person (or people) who suggested the winning name will be invited along to the boat naming ceremony at the end of the summer.

The photos below show the construction work of the boat taking place.
