Did the Postman deliver to eary Cushlin before it went up Market!

‘Eary Cushlin has gone up market these days….I suppose before they turned the riff raff away and marketed it for self catering at 4* Gold £1500 a week the had a consultation if so fat lot of good that did!’

I’m back from a refreshing walk at Eary Cushlin humming ‘Oh Land of our Birth’ to myself and breathing in the smell of the gorse. Fortunately dodged the rain. After watching clouds wafted on a fair breeze traversing the sky and thinking this is heaven I’m down to earth with a bump.

Manx Radio has caught up on the postal workers discontent and has a story here:

The radio helpfully puts a link to the consultation that the Post Office have ongoing. I suppose it's to inform their five year strategy but I think it's kind of a cart before the horse I would prefer to see the strategy then have the consultation on what folk think of it.

I mean if you say “I want things more or less as they are” and then Treasury and the PO come up with radial change you will feel cheated.

I toy with the idea of completing the consultation and look at the questions but it's all pretty anodyne stuff and anyway I’m annoyed that one of the questions asks for an age band and mine is just ‘Other 70’. Rightly or wrongly I get the feeling this may weigh how the submission is viewed i.e, “He’s over 70 he’ll be dead soon so we can forget the fact he likes the daily postie and doesn’t want a ‘pop-up’ post office”. What are these ‘pop-up things anyway and when did people come up with this jargon.

Similarly I'm asked if the posties could do anything else on their daily round. I don’t know about you but I couldn’t look my post lady in the face if I said; “Yes I’d like them to deliver milk and a loaf of bread”.

I abandon the consultation because to quote Richard Attenborough in the Movie ‘Dunkirk’: ‘I think ‘it’s bleeding phoney anyway’!

Anyway I’m thinking of Eary Cushlin again gifted to the nation by Colby Cubbon who used it as a summer retreat I wonder did he get a postal delivery it would have been a long way for the postman to cycle!

Eary Cushlin has gone up market these days. It used to be used by youth groups and others. I remember some Manx speakers in the 70/80s used to organise weekends there. I suppose before they turned the riff raff away and marketed it for self catering at 4* Gold £1500 a week the had a consultation if so fat lot of good that did!

Old Colby Cubbon must be turning in his grave.
