Community purchase of Scottish island of Ulva concludes

Negotiations have now concluded for the community purchase of  the Scottish island of Ulva. The ownership will transfer on 21 June and follows negotiations that were launched about a year ago. North West Mull Community Woodland Company have bought the island after receiving £4.4m from Scottish Land Fund, financed by the Scottish Government, to make the purchase. The stated aim of the community group was 'to bring the Isle of Ulva back into the community’s hands in order to re-invigorate the economy and social fabric of the island.' The estate spans 4,942 acres (2,000 ha) and includes Ulva as well as some land on Mull. Ulva (Scottish Gaelic: Ulbha) is in the Inner Hebrides (Na h-Eileanan a-staigh) of Scotland, off the west coast of Mull.
