Alleged Damage To Merlin Carving At Tintagel Castle

News from Kernow Matters To Us:

This late afternoon, 'Kernow Matters to Us' (KMTU) has been in receipt of several 'urgent' emails and telephone calls from representatives of the press and general media informing that the nose of the cliffside carving said to represent 'Merlin' contracted at Tintagel Castle by English Heritage has been allegedly smashed away by persons unknown.

Accordingly, we issue the following written response to all inquiries:

" 'Kernow Matters To Us' (KMTU) is not in favour of any of English Heritage's so called improvements at Tintagel Castle including the carvings, statues and other proposals which brush aside Cornwall's true history and heritage in favour of a tacky theme park based attempt to draw more fee paying visitors to this ancient site.

We have been joined in our condemnation of the actions of English Heritage by many other cultural and heritage organisations, by dozens of archaeologists from around the world, by many local politicians and by the public.

That said, our organisation does not agree with any form of damage, be it caused by English Heritage or by any other person although we are aware that many people were deeply insulted by developments at the site."
