Sub Incident Indicates Need For UNCLOS Review Of Confined Sea Transit

Just hours after we voiced concerns about the possible environmental risks posed by a nuclear submarine coming to grief news of a collision involving a UK Astute Class nuclear submarine in the Mediterranean (link):

This is the second serious incident with this type of vessel one HMS Astute having run aground on the Isle of Skye some years ago.

The Liverpool Daily Post is carrying a story today saying that the safety zone around Wylfa Power Station on Anglesey is being extended following new guidance issued by the Office for Nuclear Regulation:

Celts Cheer as Iceland beat England in the Euros 2016

Iceland secured their place in the quarter finals of the UEFA European Championship (the international men's football championship of Europe) 2016 with a 2-1 victory over England yesterday. There can be no doubt that Iceland deserved to win in a brave, well-organised, superb performance that was in stark contrast to England's lackluster efforts. No-one should be surprised by Iceland's progress to the quarter finals. Their victories over Austria and England came after strong performances over Holland when qualifying for the tournament. 

Fishing - A Nail Biting Time In Amsterdam?

Phillip Gawne MHK (Transport Minister) said:

‘We will have to start thinking the unthinkable. We need to consider all the options now including breaking link with what’s left of the UK!’

Fukushima Nuclear Cover-Up: Well Nothing Has Changed In 60 Years!

Only weeks after the Fukushima disaster in Japan the British nuclear industry said it had learned lessons.

Well we learned something new this week and that was that the operators of the stricken Japanese plant were less than frank about the nature of the disaster and this week they had to apologise for the ‘cover-up’ (see link):

Celtic League at Frongoch 1916 Commemoration

Local residents in Frongoch (near Y Bala, North Wales) organised a series of events on the weekend of June 10th and 11th 2016 to commemorate the Frongoch Internment camp and the 1,800 Irish men who were interned there after the Easter Rising in 1916. As the organisers stated:

Irish Football Fans Win Friends In Euros 2016

The football fans of the Republic of Ireland continue to win friends in France as the 2016 UEFA European Championship (the international men's football championship of Europe) continues. The Championship started on 10 June and ends on 10 July 2016. Irish fans have been heavily praised by locals for their impeccable behaviour in the French capital this week. Pictures of Irish fans changing a tyre for an elderly couple in France spread around social media sites.
