SOCIAL MEDIA - IT’S NOT ALL ‘BAD’!

The Rally IOM fallout rumbles on with MTTV catching up with rally organiser John Gill. Gill seems laid back and answers all questions put by MTTVs Paul Moulton with ease. Gill is specific and goes into detail about timing, costs and other issues, His stance, which is non confrontational, is in stark contrast to the government interventions including the DHA Ministers outburst I likened to a car crash (no pun) yesterday.

We might have got even more out of the interview if Paul did not romance of in the middle about the evils of social media. Gill says he doesn’t go in for the blame game but Paul seems clear that social media is to blame for all our ills it's a virus he seems to have caught from Howard Quayle MHK its becoming like a stuck record. I ponder given that MTTV delivers its goods via the internet and Youtube if really it's not just glorified social media anyway but someone gets a pay cheque...oh well!

I muse to myself I might get a camera and breeze up to Howard's office once a week and ask for an interview why should Paul have all the fun - indeed why don’t they have a weekly slot for Howard in ‘the portal’ (must drop a note to Tim Glover).

‘Mannin TV’ seems an ideal title for my TV venture if someone has not snaffled it already. Must ask some of my more internet savvy colleagues about ‘uploading’ to Youtube etc. Who knows it could spawn a platform of online Manx TV channels maybe I’m a Manx Rupert Murdoch about to realise hidden talent in my declining years!

Back in the Gill interview he continues quietly and calmly to explain the intricacies of deadline and the fact the Rally organisers have to and meet standards set by regulatory bodies. He doesn’t call anyone on the government side incompetent in stark contrast to the DOI position.

Elsewhere on MTTV Chris Robertshaw is setting out his stall although he seems to focus on the DED so now we effectively have DOI, DHA and DED in the mix they don't seems to interact together well avers Chris. I recall him in his Policy and Reform days talking about ‘silo mentality’ in government Departments the silos it seems are still in place.

At this point I’m thinking some people have a ‘silo attitude’ to social media and at this point my inbox pings and its Change.org asking if I want to sign the petition to ensure that Manx Radio continues to cover the TT races. The petition has a pic of a group of Manx presenters with Tim Glover smiling out of the foreground. How can I not sign? I decide yes I will - social media has some value it seems and even helps the mainstream on occasion.
