Margaret Sharpe honoured for service to Pan - Celtic movement in Australia

Australia is home to one of the largest Celtic Diasporas in the world. With substantial emigration from countries such as Cornwall, Ireland, Scotland, Isle of Man, Wales and Brittany approximately half of its population can lay claim to Celtic roots. The Celtic Council of Australia is an important organisation in bringing together those from the various Celtic societies. Since its formation the Celtic Council has encouraged Celtic activities, including establishing the Australian Standing Stones at Glen Innes, achieved along with the local community of the town. The Celtic Council was also involved in the launch of the Australian Celtic Journal as well as the development of academic courses at universities and other learning centres.

The Council continues its work through the support of many individuals and organisations from within the Celtic communities. One of the most dedicated workers for the Council is Mrs Margaret Sharpe, who held the position of Convenor for many years. Margaret is also a previous President and now Vice President of the New South Wales Manx Community. In recognition of her work Margaret has now been awarded the the Celtic honour of Chairn Tu Celtiagh - "Leader of Celtic Learning" which is the highest level of Celtic honour given by the Council. The award was given in recognition of her tireless work in travelling all over Australia for Celtic events and celebrations as well as her dedication to her Manx community and for the Pan - Celtic peoples.
