Anger Increases at Unsustainable Development in Cornwall

NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE

A long serving member of the Cornwall Branch of the Celtic League and others have responded angrily to a public appeal by Priti Patel MP for funds to be donated to the Conservative Party in order to assist with the Westminster Parliament General Election campaign.

Against a background of reckless and unsustainable overdevelopment in Cornwall, partly at the hands of increasingly unpopular and dangerously hypocritical Prince Charles, Iwan Le Moine, a business futures analyst and member of the Kernow Branch, flagged to Mr Patel and a score of other Conservative politicians both locally and nationally, the official media release published by the cross party Communities and Local Government Committee on Friday 27th February, 2015, in which the Chair of that Committee, Clive Betts MP (Labour) publicly stated,
‘I am very disappointed by the Government’s response to my Committee’s recent report on the Operation of the National Planning Policy Framework. (NPPF)’

Mr Betts added, ‘My Committee produced a report on the draft NPPF in 2011, which the then Minister, Greg Clark, accepted almost in full. This is in stark contrast to the Government’s latest response which rejects the vast majority of our recommendations. Current Ministers have missed an opportunity to provide greater protection against unsustainable development and to ensure communities aren’t subject to unwanted housing development.’

An increasing number of residents in Cornwall joined by a groundswell of campaigners including many Councillors at all levels are becoming extremely vocal about bad development decisions and whilst being aware that no one can lawfully stand in the way of the Duke of Cornwall and his cronies who are building on agricultural land and who are threatening and frightening thousands of householders with the full force of Duchy mineral rights under their homes and properties, are becoming rightly vociferous in their efforts. Indeed, scores of Councillors and campaigners have been meeting in closed door sessions and are now in virtual collective rebellion against planners and others under the umbrella organisation ‘Cornwall 4 Change’. The Cornwall Branch has been monitoring these meetings carefully.

Mr Le Moine’s passionate and hard hitting letter is as follows:

‘3rd March, 2015

Dear Mr Priti Patel, Mrs Sarah Newton and others,
Communities and Local Government Committee -Select Committee Announcement dated Friday 27th February, 2015

As I sit in my office tonight, finishing my long day’s work, I read this latest news from the government, MY government… and I am seething.

HOW DARE you ignore the work of Communities and Local Government Committee, which is not only exhaustive, but paid for, by my taxes, as well as other hard working Cornish families, whose views are being completelyignored, and whose environment (for work, rest and play) utterly devastated by developers, acting on your colleagues’ almost direct instructions?!!

Whereas I was simply a vocal critic, voicing my concerns over your astonishing disregard for the anger and frustrations of small and not-so-small communities up and down the land, I will now actively campaign in my constituency AGAINST your out of touch government, whose aloofness and arrogance seems to be boundless (and that’s before we even talk about the gross mismanagement of the NHS, for which your party colleagues seem to be meandering rudderless and quite frankly clueless).

I don’t think that a ‘loony Labour’, ‘lifeless Libdem’ or ‘yukee UKIP’could possibly do any worse than you’ve managed to do, in destroying our Cornish communities, environment and quality of life, over the past five years.

I don’t wish any of those parties to run the country, but even less so, this modern brand of morally crippled Conservatives.

I look forward to seeing your bitter Tory in-fighting in the aftermath of the not-so-shocking Conservative defeat in May. You engineered it and will now reap its rewards.

You have failed monumentally, despite the millions spent on your educations, some of it paid for by the very tax-payers you are now kicking in the teeth.
Yours etc.’
