Lhergy Frissell & Claughbane - Lhiargee Frissell as Clagh Bane

Either side of Elfin Glen are Lhergy Frissell and Claughbane (Lhiargee Frissell as Clagh Bane) and a footpath links all three glens together, making a combined area of 64 acres.

Access is by car or on foot from Ramsey (Manx: Rhumsaa).

Lhergy Frissell covers 16 acres and is divided into two parts by the famous Isle of Man motorcycle T.T. Course. A winding path leads you to the Albert Tower.

Claughbane is mainly coniferous. The Albert Tower stands just South of Lhergy Frissell.

This monument was erected to commemorate the visit to Ramsey of Prince Albert and Queen Victoria there are magnificent views looking out over Ramsey and beyond.

Our Visit

We combined the three glens of Lhergy Frissell, Claughbane and Elfin Glen when visiting on a November day. We started out at Ballure Walk which takes you from sea level at Ramsey's south shore. Passing under a high bridge that takes the Manx Electric Railway from Ramsey to Laxey. We continued our walk through the wooded glens to the Albert Tower. On this cold sunny day we had great views across the Manx northern plain to the hills of southwest Scotland beyond. The flat terrain of the northern plain forms the northern part of the Island. Between 70,000 and 10,000 years ago, a giant ice sheet covered the Isle of Man. The ice advanced and retreated a number of times. As the ice melted, all the debris locked within it came to rest on the northern plain.
