Glen Wyllin - Glion Wyllin

Glen Wyllin - Glion Wyllin

Glen Wyllin (Glion Wyllin) is on the Western coastline of the Island at Kirk Michael (Manx: Skylley Maayl). The glen has a children's play area and a campsite. A road gives vehicle access to car parking in the lower section, which leads to the shore. This glen is also on the main Peel to Ramsey bus route.

Glen Wyllin winds its way down from the base of Sartfell and has different names in its several sections including Cooilldaragh, Glen Kiark and Glen Na Malish. The upper section of the glen includes the Cooildarry Reserve, a wooded valley noted for its variety of flora and fauna and owned by the Manx Wildlife Trust (Manx: Treisht Vanninagh Y Doogys Feie). The river running through the glen once drove a water mill, hence the name, Wyllin being Manx Gaelic for Mill.

Our Visit

Our most recent visit was in the month of November. Quite a contrast to our August walk in the glen. Then the whole area was a hive of activity with the campsite full and barbeques supplying the constant demands of children. By the time of our return visit there was hardly anybody about. We took the higher path to the south of the glen and walked down through the wooded side of the valley to the sea. The view north along the coast was of the sandy cliffs towards Jurby. To the southwest in the distance is Patrick's Isle in Peel (Manx: Purt nu h-Inshey).
