Peel/Purt ny h-Inshey

The town has many tiny lanes, leading from the working harbour which for decades was one of the main centres of the Manx fishing industry. Fishing remains an important activity in the town. There are a number of independent shops, and it is noted for it's kipper curers. Peel provides an interesting shopping location, with cafés and bars and with it's attractive harbour and golden beach a great place to slowly wander and relax.

House of Manannan, located next to the harbour, allows you to discover more about the Isle of Man, with interactive presentations of the Island's past. Peel Castle and Cathedral of St German is situated on St Patrick's Isle. St Patrick's Isle is said to be the first place Christianity was brought to the Isle of Man by St Patrick. The islet has ruins dating back from approximately 1000AD.

When we visited we spent a lazy day wandering around the Castle, visiting the House of Manannan and sitting on the beautiful sandy beach with ice creams. A truly relaxing and pleasant experience.
