Hango Hill
Ancient place of execution. Here, Illiam Dhone a National hero to Manx people was shot on the 2nd of January 1663 for his part
in the Manx rising of 1651. The ruins are those of a late 17th century summerhouse known as Mount Strange. (Manx National Heritage Sign).
Possible prehistoric burial site with an artificial mound. Its name from the Norse hanga-haugr, Gallows hill.
How to get to Hango Hill
- Along the bay between Derbyhaven and Castletown in the south of the island.
- By car - From Castle Rushen, follow the A12 coastal road east from Castletown towards Derby Haven and Langness. The site is to the site of the airport and King William College.
- By bus - Castletown can be reached by routes: 1, 1C, 2, 2A, 8 X1, X2. Travelling from Douglas, Port Erin, Port St Mary and Peel.
- By rail - Castletown can be reached by the taking the Steam Railway to from Douglas going to Port Erin or by taking the Port Erin
(Port St Mary) train going to Douglas.
