Broogh Fort
A central platform is contained within concentric banks and ditches, which are now partly eroded. Resembling Celtic round houses from the early few centuries AD.
The site is reached by crossing a stile. We noticed that the stile offered an excellent vantage point for taking photos of the site. On the day we visited, the fort was covered in different glorious shades of green foliage interspersed with wild yellow flowers. A recommended site to visit.
Getting there
- Near Santon in the south of the Island.
- By car - From St Patrick's Chair, go south along the B35, then left at the crossroads along the A24. Turn onto the B37 until you reach the minor road on the right hand side past Park Farm.
Alternatively, from Douglas along the A5 and then the B37 from Newton. Take the first turn off on a narrow lane where the site is on the right beyond a gate. - By bus - Take a bus to Newtown and then walk along the B37 to the site.
