The Ballaharra Stones were uncovered during an extension of the Ballaharra Sandpit in 1971. During the excavations, significant cremation deposits were found within this large tomb. The tomb was made up of two chambers, carbon dated from 2300BC, and had six large stones set above ground level. Two of these stones had been crushed but the four remaining were donated by the owners of the Ballaharra Sandpit to German Parish Commissioners, who erected the stones in St. John's near Tynwald Hill.
Although not in their original site the stones are set in a pleasant small park with flowers and benches opposite St John's Church. When in St John's Village we crossed over to Tynwald Hill and then on to Tynwald National Park and Arboretum. Tynwald Park was excellent with it's paths, pond and ornamental trees. The views were superb.
