Launceston Castle/Kastell Lannstefan

Launceston is situated just over one mile west of the River Tamar River which marks the border between Cornwall and Devon and is referred to as the "gateway to Cornwall". Launceston Castle dominates the town. More on Launceston Castle

Saltash/Essa

Saltash/Essa is a town in the south east of Cornwall, overlooking the River Tamar. The town is south southeast from Launceston along the A388 and then A38. It was an important ferrying point across the river and to and from St Germans Monastery and Trematon Castle. More on Saltash/Essa

Rame Head/Maker-with-Rame

Known as Rame Head this promontory lies at the south-eastern tip of Cornwall, near to the mouth of the Tamar estuary. Flint tools found in the vicinity of the headland point to the areas occupation from the Mesolithic period. More on Rame Head/Maker-with-Rame

Liskeard/Lys Kerwyd

Liskeard/Lys Kerwyd is located northwest from Rame Head. Return from Rame Head to the A374 and then on to the A38. It is an ancient market town and stannary. After the Conquest a Norman castle was built here but there are no longer visible remains. More on Liskeard/Lys Kerwyd

Trevethy Quiot

Trethevy Quoit is thought to be the best preserved quoit in Cornwall. Four overlapping granite slabs form the sides of the chamber with lateral stones at the back and front. More on Trevethy Quiot

The Hurlers Stone Circles

Travel north from Trevethy Quiot to Darite, The south-facing slope of Minions Moor is the location of the three stone circles known as the Hurlers. The centres of the circles point towards the ridge to the north, with Rillaton Barrow on the horizon and the summit of Stowe's Hill. More on Hurlers Stone Circles

Stowe's Pound

Stowe's Pound is on the top of a granite ridge north of Minions village on the south-eastern of Bodmin Moor. The hill is the site of the Cheesewring and of Cheesewring Quarry. The hill is at the edge of the moorland, which overlooks Rillaton Moor and Witheybrook Marsh, to the south and west. More on Stowes Pound

Craddock Moor Stone Circle

About a kilometre to the west-north-west of The Hurlers is the remains of the Craddock Moor stone circle. This consists of sixteen or seventeen fallen stones. More on Craddock Moor Stone Circle

The Doniert Stone

Return southwest along the road from Minions. The Doniert Stone, is also known as King Doniert's Stone. It is one of two ancient carved stones which stand in an enclosure beside the road linking the A38 to Minions and Upton Cross. More on Doniert Stone
