The Welsh language is under assualt from the effects of English speaking immigrants into the Welsh language heartlands.  Over the past several years attempts have been made to counter the pernicious effect of Engish speakers taking up residence in Welsh speaking areas. The focus of these efforts has been the use of planning permision to deny approval to property development which is seen to damage Welsh.

The Milwaukee Irish Fest is North America’s largest celebration of Irish music and culture. The four-day festival showcases more than 100 entertainment acts on 16-stages at Henry W. Maier Festival Park on Milwaukee’s lakefront. The annual festival occurs every third weekend in August. The 2018 festival takes place August 16 to 19.

Government Survey Shows Wide Support for the Welsh Language

Statistics released by the Welsh Government (link posted below) demonstrate deep broad support for increased efforts to strengthen and protect the Celtic Language of Wales. However, the survey also showed profound skepticism over the seriousness and effectiveness of the government's efforts to protect the Welsh Language against the English language onslaught.

Gaelic Language Revitalization in Nova Scotia Reaches Tipping Point - Provincial Government Confirms Support for the Celtic Tongue

Canadian media report that Randy Delorey, minister of Gaelic Affairs, revealed a new Gaelic Language license plate at a ceremony Tuesday to mark the 22nd annual Gaelic Nova Scotia Month. “The plate -- which includes the province's Gaelic name, Alba Nuadh -- will be made available for purchase later in May, with proceeds going to Gaelic language and culture initiatives. “This will allow more people to reconnect with their language, culture and heritage and to preserve these for the next generation," Delorey said at Province House.

Bòrd na Gàidhlig: Established as a public body by the Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act 2005 which was commenced on 13th February 2006. The legislation is designed to promote the use of Scottish Gaelic, secure the status of the language and ensure its long-term future.  The Act sets out 3 main aims for Bòrd na Gàidhlig:

Soaring demand for spots at Glasgow’s two Gaelic Medium primary schools is just another sign of the Celtic Tongue’s resurgence in Scotland’s largest city.  Glasgow City Council have announced plans to open a third primary school to cope with overcrowding at the existing two Gaelic primary schools. The new school is being termed as a temporary “Annexe” to accommodate the overflow.  However, the Glasgow City Councils “Gaelic Language Plan 2018 – 2022” calls for the establishment of a third fully functioning Gaelic primary school.
