French Navy welcome but Greenpeace given the cold shoulder

A petition has been started following a decision by Forth Ports to block a Greenpeace ship from berthing in the Port of Leith instead the vessel has had to anchor offshore.

The Esperanza, a former Soviet navy ship, which is the largest in the Greenpeace fleet, arrived in the Firth of Forth on Wednesday – it is believed its crew plans to stay in the estuary for one week.

Breton musical work to be performed in Phoenix, Arizona on 20 November

As reported on the Breton website 7SEIZH a musical work sung in Breton is to be performed at the Sounds of the Cathedrals event, on 20 November in Phoenix Arizona, sponsored by Catholic Phoenix. Goulven Airault, choirmaster at the Cathedral Saint-Brieuc, composed "Lux Aeterna" for the program. He drew inspiration from the antiphonal church music of the Requiem Mass and the Breton anthem Kantik ar baradoz.

Migrant Fisherman Death 'Issues to be addressed' say ITWF

News from the Celtic League:

The death of an Egyptian fishermen working on an Irish trawler highlights “continuing issues that need to be addressed by the fishing industry and Ireland’s statutory agencies” according to the International Transport Workers Federation representative for Britain and Ireland, Ken Fleming.

The death occurred earlier this week on the MFV Endurance off SW Ireland.

An Garda Síochána (the Irish Police) and the Marine Casualty Investigation Board (MCIB) have launched investigations into the death.

Human rights worry as former Chinese security minister becomes INTERPOL head

Interpol the International Criminal Police Organisation is in the news again for all the wrong reasons.

Scotland's First Minister to address the upper house of the Irish Parliament

Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will be the first serving head of government to address the Seanad, the upper house of the Irish parliament, when she visits Dublin later this month. The First Minister will also have meetings with Irish President Michael D Higgins and Charlie Flanagan minister for foreign affairs and trade. Nicola Sturgeon is seeking to strengthen Scotland’s relationship with Ireland saying that there was a "long tradition of co-operation" between Scotland and Ireland.

Kernow Matters launches Cornish language funding campaign

The Westminster Government announced yesterday that despite a petition which included thousands of signatures, it no longer intended to financially support the indigenous Cornish language. 

It is now in clear breach of its legal obligations agreed and signed off in 2002.

As a recognised indigenous national minority, one might expect the Cornish to get at least a Trident's tailfin worth of support from the UK government, but no such support has been forthcoming since they ended their token funding more than a year ago.

Loch Ness (Scottish Gaelic: Loch Nis) is a place of great beauty, surrounded as it is by spectacular scenery.  The Loch is a maximum of twenty two and a half miles (36.2km) long with a maximum width of just over one and a half miles (2.7km) and at its deepest is over 754 feet (230m).

That said, this government has proven time and time again that it is no friend to Gaelic. A government which has mastered the art of benign neglect toward the ancient Celtic tongue of the land, Ireland’s most precious asset.
