Spain's attitude to Catalonia is shameful

The Spanish government continues to show its undemocratic credentials to the world. A range of recent laws passed by Madrid has  banned many forms of public protest. Now the goose stepping Spanish state is threatening Catalonia's regional government in Barcelona with prosecution. This is because they had the audacity to demand their democratic right to decide on self determination. This Spanish government continues to act like a dictatorship and should be ashamed of itself.

As reported on the BBC:

“Catalonia’s President Artur Mas has been placed under formal investigation for his role in the Spanish region’s unofficial vote on independence.

Catalonia’s High Court said it would open proceedings against Mr Mas for allegedly disobeying a constitutional ban against the vote.

The 9 November vote, which was not binding, went ahead despite fierce opposition by the Spanish government.

Catalan officials say more than 80% of those who voted backed independence.

Mr Mas, his deputy Joana Ortega, and Catalan Education Minister Irene Rigau face accusations ranging from disobedience and perverting the course of justice to misuse of public funds.”

This really is a disgraceful turn of events by the Spanish government and they need to be aware that the eyes of the world are on them as they attempt to stamp on the democratic rights and freedom of the Catalan people
