Political leaders in Wales unite to adopt Welsh internet domain brands

As reported on WalesOnline all four main political parties in Wales have pledged to adopt Welsh internet domain brands. Plaid Cymru, Welsh Labour, Conservatives and Liberal Democrats will switch their web domains to .cymru.wales when they become available later this year.

Plaid Cymru Mid and West AM Simon Thomas said: “Plaid Cymru put this in the last government’s programme to have a Welsh domain name. Ieuan Wyn Jones as economic development Minister and his advisers worked hard to support an application to Icann [which coordinates the web’s global domain name system] and ensured it was led by a non-profit company so the benefits are shared with the Welsh people. Any profit will come back to Wales.

“The Party of Wales will be delighted to use .cymru and .wales domain names and urge other organisations to do so. For a country and an economy to be taken seriously we must have an international presence on the web.”
