Mannin: Education Cuts As £50 Million Give Away Approved And ‘Pigs Trough’ At Manx Gas

NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE

It’s a National disgrace just days after Tynwald approved like a load of ‘nodding donkeys’ a £50 million give away to private sector business it has been revealed that education budgets have been cut.

Isle of Man newspapers, presumably using the access to information code with which they are becoming increasingly adept, reveal cuts at four of the five secondary schools, this despite stringent efficiencies that have already been imposed over recent years.

Its part of what the government euphemistically term the Department of Education and Children’s ‘new funding formula’. There have been cuts to teachers, books and heating. We understand this is only the start and staff are going to be pressed for more efficiency.

Now whilst efficiencies are required in many part of the public sector we need to be very clear where ‘these efficiencies’ are going to end before education, health and emergency services are impacted.

In terms of these initial cuts the figure amounts to less than £200,000, contrast that with the £50 million pound give away or the quarter of a million the DED have wasted on their failed TT initiative.

Education bosses looking to reduce lighting and heating costs have said they will not be turning off heating ‘when it is required’ – yes and ‘pigs will fly’!

At one time Education and Health Chiefs fought their corner when faced with this sort of situation but these days politically they are neutered and in the case of Education it is headed up by a political ‘Jobsworth’ who made sure he dodged a cut to his salary at the next election by sliding into Legco. (As an aside why is a MLC heading up a Department – this truly is a government of all the ‘talentless’).

Meanwhile as the Department contemplates managing its schools heating bill over the coming months the Chief Minister is remarkably relaxed about the decision of Manx Gas to hike energy charges. Of course you can bet your life that their will be no thermostat reduction in the CM’s Office!

It is appalling we have ‘pigs flying’ over the Department of Education and ‘pigs troughing’ down at Manx Gas
