Kernow Matters To Us (KMTU) contacts Council of Europe over Boundary Commission 'Devonwall' Proposal

News from Kernow Matters To Us:

The Secretary of Kernow Matters To Us (KMTU) has written directly to the Council of Europe regarding the unelected Boundary Commission's 'Devonwall' proposals.

This has been followed up by a telephone call made by the Chair of KMTU directly to the Council of Europe in order to ensure that the full gravity of the communication and of the Boundary Commission's proposals and the threat they pose to the Cornish National Minority are fully understood.

Attention was also drawn to the Media Release issued by Cornwall Council in respect of the ongoing attempts to gerrymander Cornwall's ancient border.

It should be borne in mind that there is a distinct difference between the European Union and the Council of Europe. The Council of Europe is an international organisation focused on protecting human rights, democracy, rule of law in Europe and promoting European culture. Founded in 1949 and with the United Kingdom as a founder member and Sir Winston Churchill being instrumental in its foundation, it now has 47 member states and covers approximately 820 million people.

The Cornish people were admitted to the European Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities during April, 2014.The Secretary's communication and the Media release made by Cornwall Council are as follows:

Letter:

"Please could you advise us? The utterly corrupt English state is attempting the final eradication of the indigenous Cornish minority.

As well as pricing our homes out from under us, forcing us to move abroad to England and further to find work so that we cannot afford to move back,  all of the homes go to 2nd home owners from London and elsewhere.

Additionally, the Boundary Commission is now proposing a cross-Tamar Parliamentary Constituency that violates our historic border. This is despite everyone in Cornwall protesting about it very publicly. I believe this proposal is illegal under the Race Relations Act 2010 as it pertains to the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities.

Please could you advise the Cornish nation on what we options we have left against our criminal government?

Secretary,

Cornwall Council Media Release:

“We are very disappointed by the decision of the Boundary Commission to formally propose a Bideford, Bude and Launceston cross-border constituency as part of its 2018 review of parliamentary boundaries.

As we said in our robust submission to the Commission, we strongly object to this proposal which would create a new constituency crossing the historic border between Cornwall and Devon for the first time in Cornwall’s history.

As well as destroying the integrity of Cornwall’s historic border, which would cause great distress to numerous residents , this proposal also conflicts with the spirit and intent of the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities.

We strongly believe there are cultural, legal, geographic and political reasons to maintain our border in terms of Parliamentary representation and we will be lobbying Parliament and calling on the Boundary Commission to rethink this proposal.”

Issued on behalf of Kernow Matters To Us.
