How Long Can We Afford this 'Madness'

News from the Celtic League:

Maintaining a Lt Governor in a time of austerity is outrageous as I explain in this item on Manx Radio.

By the way my maths were ‘slightly’ out as it is probably £10/12 thousand a month more than the figure I cite! Makes you wonder how long this madness can continue:

Here’s the story with a clip at the link I presume the full interview may be (have been) used of Mandate:

“Celtic League criticises post

The Celtic League says spending hundreds of thousands of pounds a year having a Lieutenant Governor is simply wrong during lean times.

Last week, the latest man to hold the post – Sir Richard Gozney – was sworn in at a ceremony in Douglas.

Bernard Moffatt of the Celtic League says as a nationalist organisation, the League opposes the idea of having what it describes as a “relic of the colonial past”.

But he says as well as the ideological objections to having the post, he can’t see how the huge costs can be justified:”
