Westminster Government ignores Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities (FCPNM)

Many have received identical replies from both the Cabinet Office, Government Departments and MPs regarding the stand against 'Devonwall'. A direct quote appears below and has been seen on numerous occasions. Sadly, it indicates that the Westminster Government affords little if any respect to something which so many campaigned for for so many years.

This was one of many identical responses sent to many correspondents from the Cabinet Office:

'I note that you have referred to the fact that the Cornish people have now been granted minority status under the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities. However, the Government considers that equality and fairness must be the overriding principles when the Boundary Commissions carry out boundary reviews. For something as important as the right to choose the Government of the day, the Government believes it is important that votes carry a more equal weight across the country. For this to be the case each constituency must contain an approximately equal number of electors',

So there we have it. The FCPNM can simply be cast to one side by Westminster intent on gerrymandering borders.

A copy of this has been forwarded to the Council of Europe for their attention. The arrogance of the Westminster Government and its Departments is plain for all to see!

More results from the 213 approaches made to Town and Parish Councils

As many will recall, we took time to write to all 213 of Cornwall's Town and Parish Councils drawing 'Devonwall' to their attention and enclosing our '24 Reasons to Object to Devonwall' document.

The response has been good with several dozen replying to say that the matter had been discussed by the individual Councils which have then gone on to communicate objections to the unelected Boundary Commission quango.

The latest response was from Mevagissey Council who have voted against the proposed changes and who have written to the Commission to say as much.

KMTU Overseas appeal

In as much as Westminster completely disrespects the Cornish people then perhaps our letters to the Embassies of foreign countries shows a little disrespect for them. Be that as it may, the letters, each one personalised and written in correct diplomatic protocol containing information of just how the Government stopped returning some of our tax money to support the Cornish language and of how the Cornish people have been abused and disregarded down the years has now been posted out to 20 countries thus far. It's a slow process but worth it.

Official complaint against the Daily Express

The folio of papers together with supporting evidence alleging incitement to cause racial hatred has now been posted to the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police with secondary copies to the Equality & Human Rights Commission, the Council of Europe, The Chief Constable Devon & Cornwall Police, Clare Hall-Davies Corporate Equality and Diversity Advisor Cornwall Council, Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Steve Double MP, George Eustice MP, Scott Mann MP, Sherryl Murray MP,  Sarah Newton MP and Derek Thomas MP.

The Daily Express published an article linking non-existent and now long past Cornish funding to a rise in Islamic terrorism which is disgusting and base journalism and to be utterly condemned. How much more aggravation are we expected to endure because we speak or are learning to speak an indigenous language?

Thanks go to Craig for pulling this one together.

Social Media goes from strength to strength

The three Facebook sites administered by KMTU go from strength to strength! Our flagship 'The Cornish are a Nation' now has 13,909 followers and a huge spread of posts which seem to be increasing on a daily basis. The mix of social, political and cultural news items is extremely popular and one posted item reached an incredible 301,630 people! This is ten times the weekly sales total of the 'West Briton' newspaper. KMTU also administers 'Pan Celtic Condederation' and 'International Cornish Association' which are also growing slowly. Our Twitter account is also popular with 747 followers.

Talking of the 'West Briton', it is extremely likely that thanks to the work of Samuel, we will have a monthly column in at least the 'Cornish Guardian' with effect January and the aim is to have KMTU members writing around 400 words on matters Cornish and Cornwall each month.
