Carwyn Jones wields his knife on Scotland. But he does not represent the views of Welsh people

Welsh First Minister Carwyn Jones writing in the Scottish Daily Record has said he would veto the idea of currency union if Scottish voters vote for independence! Of course you would expect Jones to try and do the dirty work for his UK masters. I’m sure the Westminster (UK) government will give him a nice little pat on the head for his simpering loyalty. But actually playing the strutting little Napoleon in Scotland all seems to have gone to Carwyn Jones head. As made clear by Scottish National Party Treasury spokesman Stewart Hosie:

“Carwyn Jones isn’t in a position to block anything and Westminster can’t stop Scotland using the pound.

“A currency union following a Yes vote – as recommended by the Fiscal Commission – is best for Scotland and for the rest of the UK. Given that Carwyn Jones wants to cut Scotland’s budget by £4bn a year, I don’t think many people in Scotland will be impressed by his views.”

Well the truth is that not many people here in Wales are impressed by his views either nor his administrations poor record on the Welsh economy. Wales has suffered from bad economic policies and under development for many years under a UK government whose policies are skewed in favour of London and the south-east of England. Other than having to suffer under poor administrations there is no other reason for the poor current economic situation in Wales.  Wales is now the poorest country in Western Europe. Meanwhile our neighbours in Ireland, although they have been through an austerity programme following the financial crisis, have average incomes over 70% higher than in Wales. Éire is now amongst the richest counties within the European Union.

An independent Wales would have the power to develop its own economy, make use of its valuable natural resources and make decisions in the interest of the Welsh people. This will not happen when it is tied in to the policies of the United Kingdom government. Something that Carwyn Jones refuses to see as he continues to act as a stooge for the UK in regard to Scotland. Remaining within the UK cannot offer any hope of future prosperity for Wales. As previously quoted in the Welsh newspaper the Daily Post: Rhun ap Iorwerth, economic spokesman for Plaid Cymru, the only party committed to independence, said: “It’s important to keep in mind that the major benefit of a nation being independent is that it has the tools it needs to build a stronger economy and a fairer society.

"Clearly  any future independent Welsh Government would  maximise the potential of Wales’ resources – both  human and natural – to ensure a high standard of  living for its citizens and high quality public  services. Our country’s current economic fragility is a symptom of the fact that Wales does not have the tools needed for job creation and a transformative economic policy.

“As the prospect of Welsh independence is a long term ambition, the priority now must be to attain these economic levers under devolution. With a successful economic policy the people of Wales will then at least have the opportunity to see independence as an option.

“Wales would be able to negotiate as an equal partner in the EU as well as targeting export opportunities for ourselves and according to our own priorities. The adoption of business-friendly policies and tax incentives for businesses would also be another valuable tool in our economic armoury, but one denied us at the moment. UK government policies have been consistently at odds with Wales’ needs and aspirations.

"That is reflected in Wales’ GDP levels, productivity levels, long-term unemployment figures and so on. All the economic indicators suggest that the UK’s policy of inflating the London region at the expense of all others, has been damaging to Wales.”

VOTE YES TO INDEPENDENCE SCOTLAND -  IT WON’T BE LONG UNTIL WALES FOLLOWS YOUR LEAD
